Whether it's because you're adjusting to a new place, trying to balance school and your relationships, sometimes doubting yourself or your abilities, or struggling with your thesis/dissertation, graduate and professional school can be stressful as well as rewarding. You're not alone if you've felt confused, overwhelmed, or sad at times about your life as a graduate student. While it might help to know that others feel this way, it might also help to talk about and/or work on the things that are stressful to you. Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), located in the Health Center, offers workshops, individual, group, and couple's counseling as well as psychiatric (medication) services to IU students. Staffed by licensed psychologists, psychiatrists, mental health counselors, and supervised counselors-in-training, CAPS provides services to over 3,000 students every year, many of whom are graduate students dealing with the typical pressures that come with this endeavor. Counseling is for anyone who wants to feel better or make a change, not just for those with a 'serious' mental illness.
