BFC (Bloomington Faculty Council) Committees

The BFC has many standing committees. The GPSO appoints members to serve on these various committees. To find out what opportunities are available, please contact the GPSO President.
The BFC Standing Committees:
Number of appointed GPSO seats = 0
The Agenda Committee serves to establish the agenda for the Bloomington Faculty Council meetings, prepare the final draft of any new legislation approved by the Council, assign items proposed for Council consideration to the appropriate committee and initially convene each committee. Additionally, the Agenda Committee may at any time request the Council to determine the implementation and the effect of any past legislation or action or to reconsider any past legislation.

The Budgetary Affairs Committee is an executive committee of the BFC with independent authority. This committee monitors the development of the annual campus budget through consultations with the dean of budgetary affairs. Members participate in budget meetings of academic and some non-academic campus units, develop budget policies and prepare an annual report for the BFC.

The Constitution and Rules Committee develops proposals for amending the campus faculty constitution and the by-laws of the BFC. This committee also develops policies in areas covered by no BFC standing committee.

The Distributed Education Committee develops campus policies related to distance education and on-campus technology-enhanced teaching. The committee monitors activities and issues related to distributed education and assesses faculty involvement and concerns.

The Diversity and Affirmative Action Committee develops policies related to campus diversity, responds to campus issues on affirmative action that may arise, monitors the performance of the campus in meeting affirmative action goals, confers with the campus affirmative action officer and the office of academic support and diversity on policy and performance issues and prepares an annual report for the BFC.

The Educational Policies Committee develops campus policies concerning teaching, curriculum, student information and related areas. This committee monitors and consults with administrative offices connected with enrollment.

The Faculty Affairs Committee develops policy governing faculty appointments, grievances, discipline, and working conditions.

The Foundation Relations Committee monitors policies of the IU Foundation and provides advisory input to IUF through interaction with its director. The committee also maintains faculty awareness of IUF initiatives.

The Fringe Benefits Committee develops policies concerning faculty benefits programs, including health and retirement benefits. The committee also consults regularly with the director of the Human Resources office.

The Library Committee monitors Library development and policies governing Library management. This committee consults with and advises the Dean of Libraries on priorities and collections.

The Nomination Committee is responsible for conducting elections of the Bloomington Faculty Council and the Bloomington representatives of the University Faculty Council. It appoints candidates to the various standing committees of the BFC and works closely with the Provost to assign members to other campus committees and boards.

The Research Affairs Committee was initiated to develop campus policies pertaining to research, and to work with the Office of Research to address issues affecting campus support for research activities.

The Student Academic Appointee Affairs Committee develops policies related to associate instructors, monitors associate instructor conditions of work and related matters and serves as a first-level campus grievance committee for associate instructors.

The Student Affairs Committee Develops policy connected with student life and non-curricular instructional matters. This committee serves as a point of faculty-student contact and consults and advises the Dean of Students.

The Technology Policies Committee develops policy connected with information technology issues apart from distributed education; consults with and advises the vice-president for information technology.
