About the GPSO
The IUB GPSO (Graduate and Professional Student Organization) serves over 8000 graduate and professional students at IU-Bloomington by providing academic support, community, advocacy, and graduate resources.
Academic Support
Being a graduate or professional student can be difficult. The GPSO strives, through the various programs and services, to provide opportunities for graduate and professional students to manage their professional lives effectively and efficiently during their time in Bloomington. Some of these services are:
- Travel Awards
- Research Awards
- Grad Conference Support
- GPSO Awards for academic and mentoring achievements
Community Building
The GPSO organizes and sponsors several social, academic and professional events and works to foster a closer community between IU's graduate and professional students. We also strive to create and maintain productive communication channels with other major constituents of the university.
Advocacy
The GPSO promotes the interests of the graduate community through the Bloomington Faculty Council and on several campus committees. The GPSO also organizes and funds several initiatives to improve the campus and Bloomington community, such as the Recycling Project.
Resources for Living and Learning at IU
Recognizing the need for sharing information and resources in the graduate student community, the GPSO builds resources that assists graduate and professional students with living and working at IU. Examples of such resources are:
- Housing Bulletin Board - designed for graduate students to advertise and find housing.
- Online Forums - allows peer-to-peer communication about graduate issues of any concern
- Alerts to other campus educational and social opportunities
GPSO History
The GPSO has been serving graduate students for more than 15 years. From 1994-1999 the organization was known as the GSO (Graduate Student Organization), and in 2000 became the GPSO (Graduate and Professional Student Organization). GPSO leadership has come from a rich variety of departments on campus. Here is a historical listing of GPSO leadership through the present day:
