GRADUATE AND PROFESSIONAL STUDENT ORGANIZATION (GPSO)
RESOLUTION ON THE BURSAR'S SCHEDULE OF PAYMENTS TO THE ADMINISTRATION OF INDIANA UNIVERSITY-BLOOMINGTON
WHEREAS, most Student Academic Appointees (SAAs) at Indiana University do not receive their first salary disbursement for the first semester until September 15 and do not receive their first salary disbursement for the second semester until January 30, and
WHEREAS, graduate students that register prior to July 18 must make their first Bursar payment by August 10 and graduate students that register prior to August 22 must make their first Bursar payment by September 10, and
WHEREAS, many graduate students struggle to make Bursar payments, particularly at the beginning of each semester when they have not yet received a salary disbursement, and
WHEREAS, many graduate students must pay late fees if they are unable to make payment prior to receiving their salary disbursement from Indiana University, and
WHEREAS, some graduate students struggle to cope with living costs under the current salary disbursement schedule, particularly in the months of August, September and January,
BE IT RESOLVED, that the GPSO Assembly recommends that the administration of Indiana University in the Office of the Bursar, University Human Resources Services and Payroll work to better align the salary disbursement schedule for SAAs and fellowship recipients and the payment due dates for Bursar bills.
