GRADUATE AND PROFESSIONAL STUDENT ORGANIZATION (GPSO)
RESOLUTION ON PRINTING ALLOTTMENT
WHEREAS, , Indiana University-Bloomington "provides access to University Information Technology Services (UITS)-managed printing services on the Indiana University, Bloomington campus" that "are funded entirely from the Student Technology Fee" and "unrestricted access to these facilities is limited to students and to faculty who teach in the STCs and, in the case of RTCs, those living in campus housing" (quoted from the UITS website); and

WHEREAS, UITS printing allots 1,000 pages per semester for each semester that graduate students are considered students of Indiana University-Bloomington; and
WHEREAS, IU printing allotments do not currently rollover from summer to fall
WHEREAS, this policy currently deprives graduate students of the ability to be competitive in research in cutting-edge fields and creative engagement of problems impacting the globe at large and Indiana University in particular; and
WHEREAS, this policy thus creates a highly visible gap between the mission of UITS, as outlined on the website, and actual practices at Indiana University-Bloomington; and
WHEREAS, this body believes that inconsistent rules may impede the overall mission of this institution to graduate education and on-going research; and
BE IT RESOLVED, that the GPSO Assembly recommends that the Indiana University-Bloomington administration, sign and endorse the ability for graduate students to roll-over their printing allotment for a full academic calendar year, and thereby make official the administration's intention to enable Indiana University-Bloomington graduates students to do so as stated in said document.
